June 21: Day 6: Myzel's Voice

Myzel with Carlos, a kindergarten boy from Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos
Hi, everyone, this is Myzel. Today I went to a middle school and played basketball which everyone in the group played in a team. Now we didn't work very good in a team against girls in Cuentepec. The score was 5-0. So they split the team up into Mexican girls, Pachan, Nyesha, and me against Maya, Michael, Shacquan, and other Mexican girls. We won 21-8. I made half of the baskets. After that we talked to kids there. I would not want to be them because they don't have as much stuff as we do and their houses are different from ours and their schools are different too. But we all liked basketball. We all like music even though we don't like the same kinds. And of course we all go to school.
When we left the middle school we went to the orphanage. It was big and great. There were like 600 people. I was surprised that it was so big. There were dorms, a chapel, a big cafeteria. It's better that the kids live there than homeless in the street. The little kids were fun to play with but I could not believe they didn't have a mother or father. Well they do have a mother and father but not ones that take care of them. It's good that they have a life at Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos now.
The best thing about the day was watching the little kids at the orphanage smile and having fun. I don't wanna go home now because it's fun here. I'm going to miss Mexico.

Hi CESAR group-
I can see by the blog that you've been having a great time down in Mexico. Cool that you got to play some basketball with the students there.
I wondered if anyone has told you about the Mexico national soccer team? Yesterday they defeated Guadaloupe in the semifinals of the North American CONCACAF tournament which is being played in the US right now. On Sunday they will play the US (who beat Canada) for the championship at Soldier Field in Chicago. Cheer on your teams, whoever you prefer.
